The seaside village of Arnside is on the south- east side of the Kent Estaury of Morcambe Bay with Grange-over-Sands on the opposite bank.
Arnside is an area of outstanding national beauty and at the end of the promenade is a slipway that leads down to the beach.
The long, low stone viaduct crossing the estuary carries the Carnforth to Barrow in Furness railway line and links Arnside to Grange over Sands. |
Local facilities include horse riding, fishing, sailing, wildfowling, ornithology, picnic spots and a nature walk. Guided walks across the sands can be arranged and take place at regular intervals during the summer. These walks are guided because of the natural quicksand in the area of which the guides are aware.
Because of its natural beauty it is a popular area to visit and has a variety of scenery, including limestone pavement, saltmarsh, foreshore fen, parkland and woodland.
Arnside Knott
There is a nature trail around Arnside Knott, which stands at 521ft and from the summit on a fine day there is a wide panorama visible from the Pennines to the Lake district Fells.
